The Wedding and Bar Mitzvah Expo is an annual conference in eastern Massachusetts where couples and parents preparing for weddings, bar mitzvahs, and other events can connect with all the vendors they need in one place. The conference had its own website already, but it was on an insecure platform and was dealing with several hacking attempts per day. The site’s design also hadn’t been refreshed in several years.
The Wedding and Bar Mitzvah Expo’s creator got in touch with me for help updating their old website. They wanted a simple but speedy and secure solution that would accurately represent their conference to the world.
They needed a modern website with enough security baked in to give them peace of mind.
The Process
We began by exploring websites for similar conferences as well as for the vendors who attend the Wedding and Bar Mitzvah Expo. We crafted a unique design to communicate “wedding” without losing the “bar mitzvah” piece of the conference.
We reworked the original site design into a simple one-page site design so that attendees could find all of the location, timing, and registration information they need easily. We also developed a new FAQ section to save the conference runners from excessive emails.
Lastly, instead of using stock photos, we highlighted photographs from actual weddings and bar mitzvahs the conference creator has photographed to help conference attendees get a sense of the variety of events the conference serves.
On the security side of things, we amped up our usual security standards by automatically blocking malicious bots, establishing DDoS protection, and setting up notifications for a variety of security events.
